Over the years I have listened to the tale of Ahalya - a woman accused unfairly punished and ostracised without ever being given the chance to defend herself - and each time my blood has boiled It makes me furious - not just to think that a woman should be treated in this manner but that society should make an example of it and tell the story over and over again But then you realise its not the story but how you tell it - even the tiniest change in the narrative can change the whole message Here is a story very similar to that of Ahalya and yet so different Purnakala is treated in the same way accused judged and turned into stone - in other words shunned by society all support withdrawn But in going back to the earth she finds her strength in Mother Earth and with this combined power she becomes the support of others in her situation Because all you need is one person one friend one supporter - to see you through your darkest times Use your strength to be a friend Stories have incredible power - pick what you choose to tell and how you choose to tell it
